Hey what a great message! I think that happens a lot nowadays. There is similarities between how Christmas is spent in giving presents and all, but I think that's a lesson that we can all apply!

I think it's awesome how we share differences between each culture and our own, and also our prospective of how we see them. So let me share this with you guys, it is more like a personal way of celebration I think not a general Peruvian way of celebration. During every Christmas season my family would give themselves presents between my dad, mom, sister, brother-in-law, grandpa, and I, and I think even my dog got some too and probably some other few friends of my parents. I enjoy it myself, because I get some nice presents, who doesn't right? But now, I think it should be a time to give to the others and not just share between your loved ones. And making yourself feel good perhaps about giving them something that will hopefully put a smile on their faces will be your best present for you. So for the next Christmas hopefully I will be willing to give, share, exchange presents not only with my family but with the people that I also consider family and why not those who I don’t know. Lesson to learn and to apply to life, Christmas should not be about waiting for presents but to give them away.

As far as New Year goes, this past New Years, we celebrated New Years, the Latino group there in Highland Oaks Church of Christ gymanasium and we had food from different countries such as Bolivia and Mexico. We talked, we had time for devotional, we played various games and sports such as volleyball, soccer, and basketball! It was fun.

I think there are major differences in the food. Mexicans might have tamales, or menudo and more. I think the foods vary quite considerably. Christmas trees are usually put up but some don't. I think almost everyone tries and gives and receives gifts. Mine is more traditional and we like to eat out at other people's house or invite to our own and give and exchange presents.

Lol. Well, definitely to know the Bible better! That's four languages, wow. Well, they say after every language you learn it makes it that much easier to learn another!

Yes, it would be great to be bilingual. I only know English, ancient Greek, Hebrew, and pig latin. Nothing really helpful in clothing stores!

Hispanics are everywhere. I was working today, in a clothing store here in Edmond, Oklahoma and dialoguing in both spanish and english. Spanish to those that are latino and english to Anglos. I see it as more of a comfort issue. Those that speak spanish natively or naturally feel more comfortable in spanish, especially first generation latinos. I think being bilingual is one of the keys to the future and the present!

Jonathan, thanks for helping me understand the different Hispanic groups. Very interesting! I have heard Sixto talk about 2nd generation Hispanics from places other than Mexico being called "Mexicans" or thinking of themselves as such because of what others classified them to be.

Wow, I appreciate that information Jonathan. You're right, hispanics can't be grouped into one category, they are different and come from different places and different cultures. I will check that book out! I think the good thing is that even though we may not know every word of every region, people can understand and we learn from it. For the second generation, it is more of a spanglish thing I feel.
